Privacy Policy Summary for Kids
Revision Release Date 5/31/10
As a kid on the internet, Kabongo wants to protect your personal information. Your privacy is very important to us and should be very important to you too.
To help protect your privacy, the government has created laws that don’t let websites collect personal information from kids without letting their parents know. Since we don’t want to break the law, we ask for as little information as we can and we don’t share it with anyone without their parent’s permission.
We ask for your parent’s email address so we can get their permission for you to be on our website. We ask for you to create a username and password so you can login once your parent’s gives their permission. We use your email address, if you give it to us, only to send information you specifically request from Kabongo - like if you forget your password and want to reset it or if you have a question about the website.
To help us protect your information, we use the latest and greatest, high-tech security systems to keep your info safe and secure.
If for some reason, we change our privacy policy, we’ll let you and your parent know.
Privacy Policy Summary for Parents and Teachers
Kabongo is dedicated to keeping the information we collect secure. Our games are designed to comply with the standards set by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (or “COPPA”).
COPPA requires us to inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age. This policy describes our practices with respect to information we collect from you, as well as from your child.
Under COPPA, we may not, and we do not, condition your child’s participation in any Kabongo activity on the provision of more information than is reasonably necessary for your child to participate in that activity.
Information we collect and how it is used
What information we collect from children
SKATEKIDS BETA
For our Skatekids beta test, Kabongo requires a child to provide us with a valid email for their parent in order for us to obtain consent from their parent and activate their account. We also ask them to provide us with a username and password for game play once their account is activated by their parent.
Once their account is activated, children have the ability to use a chat feature within the site. This feature consists of only pre-defined statements and emotes – meaning children cannot enter any personal information. We will also periodically request feedback from participants in the beta regarding the website. For example, we may ask – “Who is your favorite character on the website?” Most of these questions will be in a multiple choice format but we may also allow them to send us their comments in our Feedback section. Here they would directly send information and suggestions to our Kabongo designers and developers for the sole purpose of improving our website functionality and game play.
We may also use information a child submits, such as email address or his or her username, to respond one time to a direct request, such as a request for password reset or a support question about the operation of the website.
SKATEKIDS ISLAND BETA
To register for our Skatekids Island beta (which will not be released until August of 2010), Kabongo does not collect any information from a child. All personal information we collect must come from the child’s parent.
What information we collect from parents
SKATEKIDS BETA
In order for a parent to activate their child’s account for our Skatekids beta test, we collect personal information such as an email address and a password in order to create a parent account. We use your email address to communicate with you about beta testing, promotions, new products, support, security, privacy, or administrative issues. We also give parents the option of supplying us with the first name of their child/children in order for them to be able to identify them more easily from their parent account.
SKATEKIDS ISLAND BETA
In order for a parent to register for our Skatekids Island beta (to be released in August of 2010), we directly collect personal information such as name, email address and year of birth. We will also request mailing address and age and gender of their child/children (submitting information in these areas is optional).
We use your name so that we can identify you and address you properly in any communication. We use your email address to communicate with you about beta testing, promotions, new products, support, security, privacy, or administrative issues. We use your birth date to verify that you are over 13 years of age. We ask for the age and gender of your child for research purposes to better understand who our users are. We ask for your mailing address to send information for special promotions or news regarding our products and services.
What information we collect from teachers and students
Participating districts and schools supply us with teacher first and last names, grade level, email address and campus. This information is used to create school and class profiles, assign students and communicate regarding student activity, support, security, privacy and administrative issues. Districts and schools also supply us with student first and last names, grade level and teacher name. Optionally they may provide us with a Student ID number or other unique identifier to match records with standard student information systems (SIS). This information is used to create individual/unique login information and assign students to their respective campus and teacher.
